General Comments
Effective communication is required for all aerospace engineers, so these
homework assignments should be neat and presented in a form so that anyone
reading the assignment will be able to understand both the results and the
work leading to those results. If the information you are communicating is
not clear, it is not good, even if you have arrived at the correct answers.
A poorly written or sloppy report given to an engineering manager or a customer
is likely to be discarded. Because of this, the instructor and teaching assistant
will not accept unclear or messy homework assignments.
Format
When turning in homework, use the following:
Make sure your name is on your work.
Results should be clearly stated and evident to the grader; for example,
underline or place a box around your answers.
Use proper units.
Plots, graphs and sketches need to be clearly labeled and large enough
to be read. Use a computer (Excel, MATLAB, etc.) to create graphs.
Use only one side of the paper.
The teaching assignment and the instructor will not grade homework that is
too difficult to read and / or does not conform to the above guidelines.
Late Assignments
Homework is due on the date listed on the assignment, this is on a Wednesday.
The due dates are listed in this page and the class
schedule
page. Late homework will be accepted with a penalty of 10% each day late for
two days. Homework due on Wednesday is 10% off on Thursday and 20%
off on Friday. Homework more than two days late will not be graded.
Requests for extensions without penalties must be made before the published
due date.
Working in Groups
Working with other students to complete homework assignments is acceptable
and even encouraged, as this can help your understanding of the subjects covered
in the course. However, copying another student's work is not acceptable.
Be sure that the work you turn in is your own.
