Opportunity Description

Students will work in teams to describe a small supersonic airliner with an Initial Operational Capability in 2020.  This opportunity is based upon NASA Aeronautics Research Mission Directorate’s 2008-09 University Competition.  Teams in the Spring 2009 class will be well suited to entering a version of their final deliverable report in the competition.

Design Teams

There will be three design teams for the Spring 2009 semester.  Teams will consist of about nine students, depending upon total course enrollment.

Design Reviews

The System Requirements Review (SRR) will be in the evening on Tuesday, February 3.  The on-campus portion will take place in CIVL 2101.  Each team will have approximately one hour for their presentation and for feedback / questions from the review panelists.  A written document describing the market analysis and system requirements will be due February 12.

Industry and Government Involvement

Designers and engineers from Lockheed Martin Advanced Development Programs in Palmdale, CA have volunteered to act as design review panelists for the Spring 2009 semester; they will participate in design reviews via Adobe Connect and teleconference.
